“Chain length” refers to the number of certificates in a certificate chain, from the end-entity certificate up to the root certificate. It includes:
Certificate chain: End certificate → Intermediate CA → Root CA → Chain length = 3 In practice this means:
In practice, 3-4 certificates are common, especially with larger CAs with several intermediates. Many modern public CAs (e.g. DigiCert, Sectigo, Let’s Encrypt, SwissSign) use more than one intermediate CA. Some systems set a limit for the maximum allowed chain length. However, a value that is too low can restrict compatibility with standard PKI structures. |

A CronJob is a recurring task that can be automated on certain systems (including chargecloud). The so-called Cron Daemon forms the basis for CronJobs. It acts as a timer for the various tasks and runs in the background of the system as soon as it is started. If CronJobs are defined, they are automatically executed by the system at the specified times or intervals. When a CronJob starts, it works through the task from start to finish, not simultaneously. So if a CronJob runs, for example, every hour on the hour, it may take up to a quarter past, depending on the size of the effort, to have everything updated once. |
|

|
| Workaround |
A workaround is an alternative way to achieve your requirement in the system despite a restriction caused by an existing bug. The workaround is therefore a kind of temporary or stopgap solution that does not actually fix the error, but still helps you until the bug can be fixed. Reasons for a workaround: Depending on the effort involved or the severity of the bug, it may not be possible to fix it straight away. It can also happen that bugs with a low priority cannot be fixed immediately due to high workload of our staff. |
